A little magic, a murder, and a bag of gold…Is this a case of mistaken identity?
Once again Marley is having another retreat at her resort but this time she decided to take the magical guests into town. Everything was going great until a towns person ended up dead in a case of what was clearly mistaken identity. It seemed very clear that the actual target was one of Marley’s guests and when she was offered a bag of gold to find the killer she could not turn it down.
In book 3 off the Marley the Witch series we actually had a change of pace! No angry ghosts giving her deadlines, this time she was solving the case because the future of her resort was at risk. Marley was not paying attention to her mail and it turned out that she had not paid her taxes in 2 years, so the government was going to seize her property unless she came up with the funds to pay off that debt. Luckily the true target was willing to offer Marley a reward If and only IF she was able to figure out who was trying to kill him before the retreat ended. So, obviously Marley has really no choice but to help.
So what makes this book shine for me? I really just enjoyed seeing Marley grow as a person. It seems like in every book there is lesson to be learned, and that is one of the things I love about the series. The characters are just so upbeat and happy, it really just lightens the mood whenever I read. The familiars were sooooo adorable as well. Reading these books just makes you feel like you are hanging out with your friends and I like that!
Overall, the book was enjoyable to read. They mystery element was also very interesting! I’m glad we were able to get a different kind of mystery out of this one! The potential mistaken identity, the secret new comer who lied about their name, and the risk of everything being lost really made for a delightful cozy! So, if you are looking for a new cozy mystery series check this one out!
